Who can use Handkerchief

You need to be 18 or older to use Handkerchief. By signing up you confirm you are. If we find out you're not, we'll close your account.

How to behave

• Be a real person, using your real face in your photo.
• Be kind. Walking up to someone is a brave thing; receive someone doing the same with grace.
• No harassment, no hate speech, no threats, no nudity, no soliciting. Anyone reported for these things is removed without warning.
• No scraping, no automation, no creating fake accounts. We'll ban anyone caught doing this and may pursue legal action where the damage warrants.

Reporting and removal

If someone behaves badly, tap Report on their profile. We review every report and take action on the genuine ones. Repeated reports against an account, even individually borderline, can lead to removal.

What we promise

• We'll do our best to keep the app working, your data secure and your experience honest.
• We will never sell your data, run ads, or surface someone we think you should meet based on engagement metrics.
• We'll keep the rules in the app and on this page accurate. If they change in a material way, we'll tell you.

What we don't promise

• That you'll meet someone, match with anyone, or have a good date if you do. We are a tool for getting people in the same room. The rest is up to you.
• That the app will be available 24/7 without bugs. We'll fix what we can, when we can.
• That other people on Handkerchief are who they say they are. We check faces in photos, but we can't verify identity beyond that.

Safety in the real world

Handkerchief tells you someone is interested. It doesn't tell you they're safe to meet. Use good judgement. Meet in public. Tell a friend where you're going. If something feels wrong, leave.

Closing your account

You can close your Handkerchief account any time from your profile. Doing so deletes your profile, photos, check-ins and handkerchiefs immediately. See our privacy policy for the small print.

Liability and law

We aren't responsible for things that happen between users in the real world. We are responsible for handling your data with care; if we fail at that, applicable consumer protection and data laws apply. Handkerchief is operated from Portugal. Any disputes are resolved under Portuguese law unless mandatory consumer law in your country of residence says otherwise.
